Designed for temporary works co-ordinators
The CITB Temporary Works Co-ordinator Training Course (TWCTC) is a two-day course designed for those who are responsible for managing all forms of temporary works on site.
The one-day Refresher (TWCTC-R) is for delegates who have already completed the TWCTC and wish to update and consolidate their knowledge.
Temporary works are critical to both safety and business outcomes. This course is designed with input from the Temporary Works Forum and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), ensuring industry relevance and best practice.

Who attends?
The TWCTC is for:
- Anyone who is, or will be, a Temporary Works Co-ordinator.
- Site and project managers, senior supervisors, and those who hold responsibility for temporary works.
- Professionals requiring detailed understanding of the Temporary Works Co-ordinator role.
It is recommended (but not mandatory) that delegates have completed SSSTS/SMSTS or equivalent.
The refresher course is only open to those with a valid TWCTC certificate.
Certification
Certification for this course is valid for 5 years.
To remain certified in this area, you will need to take the 1-day refresher course before the expiry date.

- Roles and responsibilities of others involved in temporary works
- The application of BS 5975:2024 to temporary works
- Risk management and classification
- Typical documents and procedures in temporary works
- The “Four Cs”: communication, co-ordination, co-operation, and competence
- Managing the construction, erection and dismantling of temporary works
Are you a Temporary Works Supervisor? Our one-day TWSTC may be a better fit for you.
You’ll need to bring a form of ID, such as your driving license, passport, or CSCS card.
We’ll provide you with a pen and paper for notetaking, but you’re welcome to bring your own notebook.
It’s a full day course each day, so please bring a packed lunch. If the course is taking place at our office, there is a café on-site.
If the course is taking place at our premises, you’ll find us at Bizspace, Poole. When you arrive, please head to reception. If you’ve parked in the car park, you’ll need to input your number plate into the screen at the front desk for free parking.
If the course is taking place elsewhere, we’ll send you the details beforehand. And if you get lost, you can always call us.
You’ll get two days of learning with an experienced, professional instructor who will ensure you leave feeling confident with the course material.
You’ll also get a copy of the course workbook, temporary works documents and detailed drawings for your reference – and unlimited tea and coffee. Upon passing the course, you’ll receive an CITB e-certificate.
Course funding
If you are up to date with your CITB levy returns, you can claim a £140 grant back upon completion of the course. For the one-day refresher course, you can claim £70.
Alternatively, if you are part of a CITB Employer Network, you can get 70% of the cost of the course paid for by CITB up front.

TWCTC
Assessment
Continual assessment takes place throughout this course, with the trainer ensuring that you understand the material and feel confident going back into the workplace as a temporary works supervisor. This includes four mandatory exercises (two for the refresher).
There is a final exam at the end of the day which consists of 22 questions and has a pass mark of 78%. The test is made up of 18 multiple choice questions, and 4 short written questions each worth 3 marks. The exam is open-book, so you can use your course workbook and notes to help you.
Additional support is available for those who have difficulty with reading or writing. Please let us know in advance where possible so we can help you.
