Developed for achievement in a real workplace environment, this internationally recognised qualification assesses and verifies your existing skills, knowledge, training and experience as a construction manager in the residential development sector.

After completing this NVQ and passing the CITB Health, Safety & Environment Test for Managers & Professionals, you can apply for your black CSCS card.

This Level 6 NVQ is suitable for you if you are already working as an experienced construction manager in the residential development sector.

Certification

NVQs are lifetime qualifications. However, black CSCS cards must be renewed every five years.

On average, this NVQ takes between 3-6 months to complete, depending on how much time you’re able to dedicate to it.

To get a 5-year CSCS black card, you’ll need to complete any Level 6 or 7 NVQ and pass the CITB Health, Safety & Environment test for Managers & Professionals.

Course funding

If you are up to date with your CITB levy returns, there are different ways in which you can receive funding for this qualification.

  1. Claim a £1500 grant back upon completion of the qualification.
  2. Apply for a Skills and Training Fund to use towards your training costs.

The CITB Skills and Training Fund can be used in tandem with CITB grants to get the entire cost of the course covered, with the grant paid on completion of the qualification.

What’s covered?

The Level 6 NVQ in Construction Senior Management (Residential Development) is made up of twenty units:

  • Allocating work and monitoring people’s performance
  • Contributing to the identification of a work team
  • Controlling project progress against agreed programmes
  • Controlling project progress against agreed quality standards
  • Developing and maintaining good occupational working relationships
  • Ensuring that work activities and resources meet project work requirements
  • Establishing dimensional control criteria
  • Establishing, controlling and monitoring environmental factors and sustainability
  • Establishing, implementing and maintaining organisational systems for managing health, safety, welfare and wellbeing
  • Evaluating and confirming work methods
  • Identifying and maintaining communication systems & organisational procedures
  • Managing the project handover
  • Managing your personal development
  • Monitoring project activities
  • Organising, controlling and monitoring supplies of materials
  • Planning and scheduling the maintenance activities of property, services or systems
  • Planning the preparation of the site for the project
  • Providing customer services in the construction workplace 
  • Evaluating feedback and making recommendations
  • Identifying, allocating and planning the deployment and use of plant, equipment or machinery
