An essential, lifetime qualification for dumper OPERATIVES
Get your blue card
Developed for achievement in a real workplace environment, this nationally recognised qualification assesses and verifies your existing skills, knowledge, training and experience in safely preparing and operating a forward tipping dumper to transport loads.
If you have the forward tipping dumper category on a Red CPCS or NPORS card, completion of this NVQ will allow you to obtain your Blue CPCS or NPORS cards in the same category.
NVQ LEVEL 2 – FORWARD TIPPING DUMPER
Who attends?
This Level 2 NVQ is suitable for you if you are already a competent forward tipping dumper operative.

Certification
NVQs are lifetime qualifications. However, blue CPCS, CSCS and NPORS cards must be renewed every five years.
Length
On average, this NVQ takes between 1-3 months to complete, depending on when the site visit can be completed.
Blue CSCS Skilled Worker Cards
To get a 5-year CSCS blue card, you’ll need to complete any Level 2 NVQ and pass the CITB Health, Safety & Environment test for Operatives.
NPORS Blue Competent Operator Cards
To get a blue NPORS card, you must complete an NPORS EWT, hold an NVQ in the relevant category and have passed the HS&E test within the last 2 years.
CPCS Blue Competent Operator Cards
To get a blue CPCS card, you must pass the CPCS theory and practical assessments and have passed the HS&E test within the last 2 years.
NVQ LEVEL 2 – FORWARD TIPPING DUMPER
How does it work?
- Your assessor will call you to carry out a profile and ensure this is the right course for you.
- We’ll visit you on-site to carry out your assessment in person. This includes inducting you onto the course, carrying out the knowledge portion of the qualification through a professional discussion, and collecting evidence of your competence through recorded observations and photographs.
- Once this has been completed, we’ll obtain a testimony from your line manager or similar witness.
- We’ll sign off your portfolio and have it checked by our internal verifier before claiming your certificate from the awarding body, NOCN.
- We’ll receive your certificate and pass it on to you.
Course funding
If you are up to date with your CITB levy returns, there are different ways in which you can receive funding for this qualification.
- Join your local CITB Employer Network and have 70% of the cost paid for up front, OR
- Claim a £600 grant back upon completion of the qualification.
- Apply for a Skills and Training Fund to use towards your training costs.
The CITB Skills and Training Fund can be used in tandem with CITB grants to get the entire cost of the course covered, with the grant paid on completion of the qualification.
NVQ LEVEL 2 – FORWARD TIPPING DUMPER
What’s covered?
The Level 2 NVQ in Plant Operations (Forward Tipping Dumper) is made up of three units:
- Conforming to productive working practices in the workplace
- Conforming to general health, safety and welfare in the workplace
- Preparing and operating forward tipping dumpers to receive, transport and discharge materials
This award can be completed at the same time as other plant categories, including Ride-on Roller, Slinger/Signaller, and 360° excavator.
