First Aid training for Construction Industry professionals & the public in Hamworthy, Poole.
There are two courses that are offered and both are validated by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA), the examinations group that endorses all examinations for Scottish schools and Colleges. Being endorsed by this organisation adds significant validity to the qualification.
The Emergency First Aid (EFAW) course takes one day and centres around the primary survey and the importance of establishing whether the casualty is breathing or not. CPR is taught as well as defibrillator training. Other topics that are taught include the treatment of burns, bleeding (catastrophic as well as more benign) broken bones, stroke and heart attack, shock, anaphylaxis and choking. The course is intensive but, where possible, the context and needs of participants is built upon to add relevancy.
The full First Aid at Work (FAW) course is three days long and builds upon the EFAW course. Because it is longer, topics can be covered in greater depth and, once the CPR topic is mastered scenarios play a large part in learning. Participants are encouraged to be involved in these and artificial props and make up are used to bring some reality to them. Old clothes or retired workwear is needed after day one so that proper secondary surveys can be undertaken. The courses are continuously assessed and candidates are given individualised support to gain the necessary skills as the course progresses.
